"Natural Flavours"

If you count three or more sweetener names on one label, the product is high in sugar regardless of where each individual name appears on the list.

•         Carrageenan — a thickener derived from seaweed, common in dairy alternatives and baby formula

•         Sodium benzoate — a preservative that in combination with ascorbic acid can form benzene

•         BHA and BHT — synthetic antioxidants used to extend shelf life

•         Artificial sweeteners — aspartame, sucralose, acesulfame potassium — increasingly found in "reduced sugar" kids products
